NEW Club and Coach Consultation Program

Fri, 27 Jan 2012

The BC Section is pleased to announce a new program for club and coach support. With all the changes over the past several years and the impending implementation of the Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) Plan, we are aware that clubs and coaches may want individual consultation.

The BC Section has two Directors of Development and numerous other knowledgeable consultants whose mandate over the next year will be to travel into the regions helping coaches and clubs on numerous topics. Some of the topics may be (but not restricted to) the following:

Coaches

  • On and off ice scheduling and content
  • Jumping and spinning technique
  • Stroking and edge exercises
  • Training strategies
  • Understanding and using the judging system properly
  • Junior Academy and how to manage it properly
  • Communication techniques and using technology

Clubs

  • Setting realistic goals to measure club successes
  • Understanding the coaches job and challenges
  • Determining what type of club you want to be
  • Allowing the coaches to do their job but also holding them accountable to agreed goals
  • Ice scheduling and municipal partnerships

Skate Canada provided a program similar to this many years ago but only for the clubs and it is the coaches where we wish to provide the most support. If you as a coach or your club would like visitation and consultation then please fill out the following form and send back to:

Please feel free to ask questions, as this is a new process for everyone. We do believe however the benefits will be very positive for everyone.
