Job description: 

The Houston Figure Skating Club is looking for a Director of Skating/Head Coach for the upcoming 2022/2023 season and beyond.

Our season runs from the end of September to the end of March with approximately 10-15 hrs. per week. We are also interested in morning ice times (1-2 mornings a week) if the successful applicant is willing to do so. Our programs consist of CanSkate, PreStar, & STARSkate (Jr. & Sr.) – we would also be interested in adding back PreCanSkate or Power Skate if the applicant is willing and able. Our club typically consists of approx. 45-50 skaters. We also have off ice sessions scheduled 1 day a week for 30-45 minute sessions. Off ice is paid on top of regular ice time hours. We also pay administration time each week.

There may be a requirement to attend competitions if there’s is interest from the Club- typically 1-3 per season. The HFSC also hosts an annual Christmas Skating Gala and an annual year end Carnival. Carnival is also paid a separate wage on top of regularly scheduled ice times. The HFSC is very open and willing to support new ideas and programs for the interested candidate.

Applicants should have the following:

  • Be a coach registered with, or the potential to be registered with, Skate Canada
  • Have a minimum Regional Coach-in-Training Certification

The following would be an asset:

  • Be familiar and up to date with the Star 1-5 Program. Anything over and above is a bonus.
  • Ability to teach all levels and disciplines.

We are seeking an organized and enthusiastic, highly motivated professional with a passion for skating who demonstrates strong communication and interpersonal skills with children, parents, fellow coaches and the club executive.  The successful candidate must be a great team leader and be prepared to work closely with the HFSC executive as well as be involved in all aspects of club activities including on and off ice classes.
