The Aldergrove Skating Club skates at the Aldergrove Community Centre in the Fall/Winter and other local rinks in the Spring/Summer. Our goal is to provide high quality programming in a supportive and inclusive environment that helps each skater achieve their best. We have programming 4 days a week (M, T, Th and Fri) with Saturdays as ice time allows. We are a Skate Canada affiliated club and offer CanSkate, Junior Academy and Star Development programming both on and off the ice. Synchro is a particular passion of our club and we currently have 5 synchronized skating teams from Star 4 to Adult 3. Experience and enthusiasm for synchronized skating would be a particular asset.
We are looking for a minimum Provincially Trained coach in good standing with Skate Canada to take over the head coaching responsibilities at our club. We would consider a regionally trained coach willing to upgrade. The position would include coaching as a club coach plus an additional wide range of head coach responsibilities. These include:
- designing and scheduling our programs and ensuring they meet Skate Canada's standards
- assisting with hiring, training and mentoring of other coaches
- liaising with the AFSC board in all aspects of the clubs operations
- special event planning such as pop concert, back to the ice seminar, club showcase, hosting competitions
- work with our assessment coordinator to oversee skater assessments
- work with our ice coordinator on ice booking and session scheduling
- ensuring a safe and positive skating environment
- assisting in conflict resolution
This is a great opportunity for a coach with some experience who has a desire to advance their coaching career and a vision to continue to develop and improve our club and skaters.
Skills: In addition to strong coaching skills particular skills we are seeking in a head coach are as follows:
- strong communication skills
- collaborative team player
- willingness and ability to mentor other coaches in the club
- attention to detail
Compensation: Coaching pay is determined via a wage scale that includes level of coaching certification, years of experience and personal skating levels achieved. Wages range between $36.30/hr to $65.55/hr. In addition coaches charge skaters for private lessons at a fee under their own discretion.
Head coaches are paid administrative time for their work outside of coaching at 3/4 their coaching rate. If all of our programs are included under the head coaches portfolio, admin time is around 25 hours per month. Synchro music and choreography time is paid separately.
Application: The position is open starting immediately to allow transition from our current head coach and will remain open until filled. Please email info@aldergroveskatingclub.com with a CV and cover letter to apply or with any questions. The wage scale is available for interested applications to view.
Aldergrove is an amazing club and we would love to have you join us!
