Head Coach Job Summary
The Cranbrook Skating Club is seeking a dedicated and experienced Head Coach for the 2023-2024 skating season. The Head Coach will lead the coaching team, provide high-quality group and private lessons, and oversee the development of our skating programs. This role is crucial in creating a positive and professional environment that enables our skaters to thrive.
Position: Head Coach
Location: Cranbrook, BC
Season Duration: May 1, 2025 - April 30, 2026
Compensation:
● Ability to set your own hourly rate, that rate will be honored for any group
programming (eg CANSkate)
● Monthly retainer of $2000 (if taking on all lead coaching roles eg, Canskate,
RisingSTAR and STARSkater)
● Annual Training of your choice for coaches within the annual budget
● Signing Bonus/Moving Allowance negotiable
Key Responsibilities:
● Conduct, direct and/or lead all scheduled coaching sessions
● Develop and implement comprehensive skating programs
● Provide group and private lessons, including off-ice training
● Be a main contact for the City of Cranbrook regarding ice usage, alongside the
Club President
● Plan and execute the annual ice show, including music arrangements and
choreography
● Attend and contribute to executive meetings, representing coaching-related
issues
● Coordinate the Program Assistant Schedule and maintain skater records
● Ensure compliance with Skate Canada regulations and the Club’s bylaws and
policies
● Assist with fundraising events and the promotion of the Club’s professional
development
● Ability to work and communicate efficiently and positively with children of different
skating levels and their parents
● Provide group and private lessons, including off-ice training Organize, work with and coordinate other coaches
● Maintain all skater records as required
● Implement a positive and fun working environment for all skaters
● Work with skaters to achieve their goals even if they are not competitive skaters
● Support new coaches in achieving credentials
Qualifications:
● Skate Canada certified Coach
● Valid First Aid Certificate
● Compliance with Skate Canada’s Coaches Code of Ethics Policy
● Strong organizational skills and the ability to work collaboratively with the
executive board and other coaches
● Previous experience in coaching and program development is preferred
● Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain a professional demeanor
