Head Coach – Kimberley Skating Club (2026/2027 Season and beyond)

 

 The Kimberley Skating Club is seeking a head coach to lead our programs for the 2026/2027 season. This is a rare opportunity to step into a leadership role that offers both professional autonomy and a high quality of life in the heart of the East Kootenays. 


We are looking for a dedicated professional to foster an environment where every skater from CanSkate to StarSkate can thrive. Kimberley Skating Club serves over 140 skaters across multiple programs, including: 


• CanSkate: 70 skaters 

• RisingStar: 14 skaters 

• StarSkate: 32 skaters 

• PowerSkate: 30 skaters 


Position Details 


Position: Head Coach

Season: August 1, 2026 – April 30, 2027

Location: Kimberley, BC 


Compensation 


• Professional Autonomy: Negotiate your own hourly rate that the club will honor for all group programming (e.g., CanSkate, Rising Stars) based on experience and coaching certifications ($25 to $60/hour). 

• Guaranteed Income: A monthly retainer is available for candidates taking on all lead coaching roles (CanSkate, RisingStar, and StarSkate). 

• Professional Development Support: Annual training of your choice for coaches is provided within the club budget. 

• Ice show: Additional compensation for the planning and execution of the annual ice show. 


Key Responsibilities 


• Attend all scheduled sessions for StarSkate, Rising Stars, and CanSkate. 

• Plan and Coordinate our Pre-CanSkate, CanSkate Program; This includes (but is not limited to) responsibilities such as managing the program assistant schedule and duties, keeping records of skater achievements and report card organization. 

• Plan and coordinate our Rising Stars (intro to figure skating) program; create and deliver a comprehensive program that touches on the key areas of agility, balance and control. 

• Plan and coordinate our StarSkate program including both on and off ice programming and group classes such as edge class and stroking in coordination with other coaches. 

• Support new coaches in achieving credentials. 

• Plan and execute the annual ice show, including choreography and music arrangements. 

• Work effectively with parents and skaters of all levels to help them achieve personal goals, whether competitive or recreational. 


Qualifications 


• Skate Canada Certified Regional Coach (or higher). 

• Must be in Good Standing with Skate Canada. 

• Experience in coaching and program development is preferred but not required. 

• PowerSkate Certification is an asset. 

• Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining a professional demeanour.

We are looking for an experienced, organized, and compassionate professional who is highly motivated, passionate about skating, and able to work effectively with skaters of all ages and skill levels. Kimberley Skating Club serves over 140 skaters across multiple programs including:
