HELP WANTED – CLUB COACH
Snow Valley Skating Club – Kitimat, BC
The Snow Valley Skating Club in Kitimat, British Columbia is accepting applications for a Club Coach for the 2026/2027 season and beyond.
Our skating season runs from August to May and currently offers approximately 17 hours of club programming per week. This schedule is expected to expand soon - our second rink is nearing completion of repairs following a fire, which will bring more ice, more programs, and more opportunities for innovation and growth.
With strong community demand there is immediate potential to expand program offerings such as:
● Adult Skating Classes,
● PowerSkating Sessions,
● Additional Private Lessons, and
● possibly school-based skating programs.
our dedicated coaching staff has built a strong foundation, but their availability is at capacity —creating an excellent opportunity for a new coach to step into a growing role with established and unmet demand, welcomed with open arms by our current team.
About Our Program
Snow Valley Skating Club serves approximately 130 skaters and offers:
● PreCanSkate
● CanSkate
● PreSTAR
● STARSkate
● Competitive programs
The position includes both on-ice and off-ice responsibilities, with the potential for paid club administrative duties for a suitable candidate. Our club:
● Attends 2–4 competitions per season
● Hosts virtual test days and STAR 1–5 testing
● Presents a Christmas gala and season-end show
● Actively supports new ideas and innovative program development
Compensation
Compensation will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and relevant certifications, with the possibility of negotiating a guaranteed monthly salary. The starting range will be between $25.00 to $55.00 per hour. All hours worked for the club will be recognized as paid employment hours. Coaches are not required to collect payments directly from parents, thus enabling complete focus on coaching responsibilities and the development of athletes.
Required Qualifications
● Registered with Skate Canada, or eligible for registration
● Minimum Regional Coach-in-Training Certification (or higher)
Assets
● Familiarity with and current knowledge of STAR 1–5 and STAR 6–Gold programs
● Ability to coach all levels and disciplines
● CanPowerSkate certification (or willingness to obtain) is a strong asset
