Job description:
Vancouver Skating Club (VSC), located in North Vancouver, BC, is seeking an experienced Provincial-in-Training (or higher certification) coach with strong CanSkate experience to co-ordinate the operation of our Recreational Programs – CanSkate and CanFigure Skate - as well as on-ice coaching and technical off-ice coaching for StarSkate and junior Podium Pathway skaters.
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Enthusiastic, energetic coach available to join our team starting Spring session 2026
• Must be in good standing with Skate Canada, and have current first aid/CPR certification
• Minimum NCCP Provincial-in-Training qualification
• Should be detail-oriented, organized, and have good time management skills
• Must have excellent communication skills and an ability to work effectively with all ages and abilities (including skaters, parents, and other coaches)
• Administration of Recreational Programming - CanSkate program and CanFigure Skate (CFS) (late entry beginner skaters)
• Attendance required at all CanSkate and CFS sessions (see times below)
• Provide coaching to skaters across different age groups and levels, in private, semi-private, and group development sessions
• Experience in off-ice technical development would be an asset
• PowerSkating certification and experience would be an asset
Schedule:
• CanSkate classes run two days midweek in Spring and three days a week (Mon/Wed evenings, 2 sessions Sat afternoons) in Fall/Winter
• Summer CanSkate programming is in a two-week block in August (Mon-Thurs)
• CFS is Saturday/Sunday in Fall/Winter and midweek in Spring
• The successful candidate would be available and willing to work:
· Monday and Wednesday evenings (CanSkate sessions plus additional coaching)
· One morning per week before school (approx. 6:30-8:30am)
· Saturday (afternoon) in the Fall/Winter
· Sunday (morning) in the Fall/Winter.
• There is opportunity for 1-2 more days of coaching on top of the above.
• In the event that we obtain suitable ice in future, we may run additional sessions with the opportunity for more hours on Sunday or as per ice time received.
Compensation:
We offer competitive hourly rates, which are dependant on certification and years of experience.
For Recreational Director administration, the base salary range is $500-$600 per month (up to 15 hours of managerial and administration duties). Attendance at required CanSkate/CFS sessions is paid separately at a Club CanSkate rate in the range $45-58 per hour depending on certifications and experience.
Additional hourly pay for club coaching would start at $56 per hour for Provincial-in-Training coaches (increasing with experience based on our rate chart).

We offer comprehensive programming at all levels including CanSkate, PowerSkating, StarSkate and Competitive Figure Skating. Our programming is based solely on the North Shore this season, at Canlan Ice Sports (North Shore) and Karen Magnussen Arena. Spring and Summer ice is Mon-Fri and Fall/Winter runs 7 days a week.
