2012 ISU Adult International Competition

Fri, 2 Sep 2011

A letter from the ISU Adult Working Group:

Dear Friends,

The announcement for the 2012 ISU Adult International Competition in Oberstdorf, Germany and the accompanying documents are now posted on the Adult page of the ISU website.

We urge you to read the announcement carefully because several changes have been made. Here is a list of some of the important changes:

  • The competition will start earlier in the week this year in the hope that the competition days can be shorter
  • The Welcome Party will be Tuesday night and the competition will start on Wednesday morning.  Please plan your arrival accordingly.  Seminars will be Monday night and Tuesday. (see below)
  • Skaters between the ages of 28 and 78 may now compete.  We will have 5 age classes of 10 years each.  (there are slightly different rules for SYS skating)
  • Notice has been given in the Announcement that the age classes may be combined where necessary to ensure competition in an event.
  • The Bronze Free Skating program has been extended to a maximum time of 1 minute, 50 seconds, but it may be less.
  • In Elite Masters, Masters and Gold Free Dance, a choice of lifts has been given: either 2 different dance lifts - 1 short and 1 long OR 3 different short lifts
  • There will be 4 separate categories for artistic free skating events: Masters, GOld, Silver and Bronze.
  • We are hoping to hold a program component seminar on Monday night, May 21 and separate technical seminars for singles, pairs and ice dance on Tuesday, May 22. However, in order to do this we need to know when you send in your entry form which seminars you will attend. If there is a demand for the seminars we will pay to bring in the moderators before the competition starts. If there is not enough demand we will not want to pay to bring them in early. So please let us know.
  • We will also host a technical seminar for Synchro Skaters on Thursday, if there is enough interest.  SYS skaters please let us know.
  • There is a new Competition Music Form. Please fill it out as completely as possible. It is intended to enable the ISU to protect the interests of the composers, musicians, etc. It is now used in all ISU competitions and we have been asked to use it as well.

We have listened to your comments and hope that these changes have responded to some of your concerns.  We work each year to improve the competition and make it the best ever!  Please bring your friends and continue to make the adult skating competition a wonderful place for friends to get together and share their passion for figure skating.

We look forward to seeing you again in Oberstdorf!
